Helping Those in Need with Hospice Care

Eight volunteers of Care Dimensions recently completed a bereavement training program for non-profit organizations. Care Dimensions used to be called Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston.

The training helped the volunteers to learn about pre-bereavement phone calls, peer support group facilitation and supporting the patient’s families. Prior to doing this special training, the volunteers completed a 16 hour training program that all Care Dimensions volunteers do. For anyone who is interested in being a volunteer, the next training session will be on February 11th from 9:30-11:30 am at the Kaplan Family Hospice House at 78 Liberty Street in Danvers. The first ever Marblehead Festival of Arts was held way back in July 1963. Fifty years later it

is still going strong, and getting ready to burst forth on July 3-6, 2014. Visual and fine arts will be featured along with performing arts, as it has been since the very first Festival.

The organization behind the Festival is a non-profit group comprised of local residents on a voluntary basis, donating their talents and time in a large number of ways. The goal behind the establishment of the organization and the festival is to promote and encourage artistic events in Marblehead through the presentation of an annual arts festival. The organization has continued to grow and prosper each year, until today when not only is there an arts festival in July, but other events all year long. The organization also contributes greatly to the development of other local projects and organizations connected to the world of art.

On April 27 there will be a Volunteer Information Party in anticipation of the annual Festival of Arts. The party will take place from 3 PM to 5 PM, at the Corinthian Yacht Club at 1 Nahant Street on Marblehead Neck.

“When you volunteer for the Festival, you become part of a great legacy here in town,” said Maureen McKinnon, Volunteer Chairperson. “Next year will be our 50th Festival, and every one of those fifty years was the result of great folks coming together and working hard, but having a terrific time doing it.”

Giving Kindly in Marblehead

thrift-shopSince the very sweet ladies who work tirelessly to ensure the St. Michael’s Thrift Shop operates smoothly are too genteel to ask for donations, those in the Marblehead region who have a few coins to spare should take note. There are two stores: one at 20 Pleasant Street, and the other, a little further up the road at 149 Pleasant Street. Both need the assistance and kindness of locals.

Currently the stores are also in need of additional inventory, so for anyone in the area who has clothes, useful items, etc., take a stroll down Pleasant Street and help these amazing ladies out. At the same time, have a bit of a sort through to see if there is anything that catches your eye.

For those who want to help out but cannot do so financially, the ladies are always looking for volunteers to help work in the store – sorting through the bags that people bring in.
